The 11th Annual Downtown Issaquah Art Walk Season Kicks off Friday, May 4, 2012
2012 ArtWalk dates May 4, June 1, July 6, August 3, September 7

Issaquah, WA – The Downtown Issaquah Association kicks off the 11th annual season of the Issaquah ArtWalk on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5-8pm. The popular monthly art walk is held each Friday of the month May through September. Visitors are invited to meet local business owners, enjoy live music, watch artists in action, shop and dine in downtown Issaquah. ArtWalk draws hundreds of visitors into downtown Issaquah each month by placing dozens of artists into local businesses. The monthly ArtWalk enhances the already vibrant arts scene in Downtown Issaquah including artEAST Art Center and Artist Alley, Museo Art Academy and ArtByFire glassblowing studio.

May 4 ArtWalk highlights include Issaquah high school student art featured in the historic Shell Station and across the street at 195 Front Street North. There will be live music by Kaleidoscope bands in front of the library, Issaquah Singers at the Issaquah Senior Center and music at the historic Shell Station. The Poetry Machine is back by popular demand. The machine is a creative, innovative and interactive art experience.

Art Walkers can eat, drink and be merry at several downtown restaurants including Amante Pizza, Fin’s Bistro, Flying Pie, Jak’s, Montalcino, Rogue Brewery, Sunset Brewery, or Vino Bella Wine Bar.

ArtWalk venues include ArtByFire, Centennial Park, Confetti Cupcake, Christian Science Reading Room, Eastside Audiology, Experience Tea, First Stage, Fischer Meats, Hailstone Feed Store, Illuminate, Issaquah Senior Center, Issaquah Public Library, Issaquah Train Depot, Mills Music, Mint Salon, Museo Art Academy, Opus Bank, Pedestrian Park, Salon Jade, Salmon Hatchery, Thrive, and Village Theatre.

Enjoy live music, art happenings, appetizers and local boutique wines poured in various tasting locations up and down Front Street. Front Street shops and restaurants are open to the general public during Wine Walk and all ages are welcome. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Downtown Issaquah Association and valued non-profit partners.

Downtown Issaquah Spring Clean Up, Saturday, April 28 – 9:00-1:00

it’s time for the annual Spring Cleaning for Downtown Issaquah. We are looking for a few good citizens to make a difference in our community. Please consider spending a couple of hours making a difference to our historic downtown. If you can push a
broom, swing a shovel or plant some flowers, we want you.

 

At 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28 we will be gathering at the Hailstone Feed Store (historic Shell Station) at 232 Front Street to get assignments for the morning.

 

Students can earn community service hours. Bring a friend, bring some gloves. Make a difference. DIA will provide tools.

Plastic Bag Ban Forum

What:    A public forum with Issaquah City Councilor Mark Mullet to discuss the plastic bag ban under consideration by the Issaquah City Council. Councilmember Mullet will be discussing why the city is pursuing a ban ban and what the ban would entail. Councilmember Mullet will be joined by Environment Washington, who is supporting the bag ban and will be educating people about the ecological impacts plastic bags have on Puget Sound wildlife.

Confetti Cupcakes is our newest tasting location. Stop by, get a cupcake and try out Upland Estates Ampeli Ice, a wine that is creamy and flavorful like honey lime drops. Yum.

Village Theatre Upstairs
You know the saying, the show must go on. The Village Theatre has a performance on April 6, but we won’t let that stop us. Head up the stairs and enjoy wines produced by Upland Winery. This historic winery cultivated its first plantings in 1917.

ArtByFire
Hejira consists of an American composer and an Egyptian cello virtuoso that collaborate to weave a cosmic tapestry of incredible, original music. Witness goblet making at its finest at ArtByFire glassblowing studio. Enjoy wine from Smasne Cellars that is hand-crafted in limited quantities while honoring traditional winemaking techniques.

Illuminate
Harpist Natalie Skerlong began her musical studies at the age of six and has performed with several orchestral groups. Enjoy some fine wines from the Nardone Winery.

Museo Art Academy
Join Museo Art Academy during Wine Walk for a free activity creating your own quick and simple greeting card in Repousse. Repoussé is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. Des Voigne Cellars will be offering a few of their tasty wines.

artEAST Art Center
Acoustic Couti will entertain you with something old, something new, something borrowed and the Blues. artEAST is showcasing the versatility of clay as in their Rhythm in Clay exhibition. A flock of herons (sculptures) will be roosting at artEAST this month. The Rookery Project pays tribute to the Heron as interpreted by 30 artists. Enjoy wines from Sapolili Winery, a small family owned and operated winery in the Walla Walla Valley creating world-class red wines.

Thrive
Enjoy wines from Plumb Cellars in this warm and cozy location. Plumb Cellars boasts some of the Walla Walla Valley’s finest wines. It is fine straight wine.

Pulse: Rhythm in Clay

The versatility of clay is expressed with dramatic energy in this showcase of Puget Sound clay artists. Artistry in clay and a theme with attitude come together in an exhibit with its own power surge.

The exhibition is free, open to the public, and runs from Friday, March 9th, through Saturday, April 14th, 2012. We will host an Exhibition Reception open to all on Friday, March 9th, from 6 to 8pm. This is also free, with light refreshments provided.
