‘The Spanish Nest’ Offers Summer Camps

 

     Nestled in the CBD on Front Street, The Spanish Nest is thrilled to announce more opportunities to expand your language knowledge. The Spanish language immersion school is now offering summer programs for children ages three (3) and up who wish to reap the benefits of adding a second language.

The wonderful summer program of themed camps offer something for students of all ages. From games to other learning activities that place the student in the middle of the action, we thrive in making the experience as interactive as possible. Our central location allows us to take daily walking field trips to the park, salmon hatchery, and the library. Starting July 2nd, we have eight (8) full weeks of fun planned ending August 23rd.

 

Registration is per week and our program runs Monday-through-Thursday, 9:00am to 1:00pm with a cost of $150 per week.

After camp care is also available following the close of each day of activity up until 6:00pm, for only $6/hour per child. Reservations must be done at least two (2) days in advance.

Friday, June 1st ArtWalk is tomorrow

For June 1st ArtWalk, the amazing Poetry Machine returns with personal poems to share.  Watch artists in action at the ArtEAST Artist Alley.   Over 30 artists will be presenting their work on Front   Street, at the Train Depot and SeniorCenter where Rajasthani native Ajay Garg will show off his masterful miniature paintings using a magnifying glass and a single-haired brush depicting visual storytelling inIndia.  Enjoy live music by The Rovin Fiddlers at the Library, Ogre at the Train Depot,  Train Wreck at the historic Shell Station and The Greg Glassman Trio onNW Alder  Place.

ArtWalk Tonight in Downtown Issaquah

The Downtown Issaquah Association kicks off the 11th annual season of the Issaquah ArtWalk tonight on Front Street in downtown Issaquah from 5-8pm. Visitors are invited to meet local business owners, enjoy live music, watch artists in action, shop and dine in downtown Issaquah.

May 4 ArtWalk highlights include Issaquah high school student art featured in the historic Shell Station and across the street at 195 Front Street North. There will be live music by Kaleidoscope bands in front of the library, Issaquah Singers at the Issaquah Senior Center and Shaggy Sweet at the historic Shell Station.

Art Walkers can eat, drink and be merry at several downtown restaurants including Amante Pizza, Fin’s Bistro, Flying Pie, Jak’s, Montalcino, Rogue Brewery, Sunset Brewery, or Vino Bella Wine Bar.

ArtWalk venues include ArtByFire, Centennial Park, Confetti Cupcake, Christian Science Reading Room, Eastside Audiology, Experience Tea, First Stage, Fischer Meats, Hailstone Feed Store, Illuminate, Issaquah Senior Center, Issaquah Public Library,  Mills Music, Museo Art Academy, Opus Bank, Pedestrian Park, Salmon Hatchery, The Spanish Nest, and Village Theatre.

Cougar Mountain Zoo Celebrates Cougar Cubs birthday

COUGAR CUBS 1ST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!

Come Purr-ty with these cool cats.  On Sunday, May 20th, the Cougar Mountain Zoo will close to the general public at 2:30pm and immediately re-open for a special ticket required event; the Cougar Cubs First Birthday party! The festivities will run from 2:30-5:00pm and will include birthday cake, face painting, raffles, a birthday hat making station and of course, presents and cake for the cougar cubs. The upper portion of the Zoo will be the only area open for this event.

The cubs, one male and two females, were born at a zoo in Wisconsin on May 20, 2011. The local community has become quite smitten with these three kittens. Tickets for this pawsitively awesome event are only $10 if purchased before May 20, and $12 on the day of the event, children under 2 are free.

Proceeds benefit the Cougar Mountain Zoo’s expansion projects and The Beat, the teen page of The Press.

The cubs will be given their presents and cake promptly at 3:00pm. “Cougar cubs love to destroy things, so we are creating special birthday boxes for them to do just that!” said Robyn Barfoot, General Curator. The cubs will also receive special cakes made of meat, as well as tasty treats hidden inside their presents.

On May 2, 2012, Give Big to local area non-profits through a one day, 24 hour promoiton.  GiveBIG is a community-wide day of giving hosted by The Seattle Foundation that will increase the size of your donation.   Last year during GiveBIG, $4.1 million was raised to support over 900 nonprofits in our community.  Plan to be a part of this success again in 2012!

GiveBIG will increase your impact in several ways:  A share of every contribution made through The Seattle Foundation’s online Giving Center between midnight and midnight on May 2 will be matched by The Seattle Foundation and GiveBIG’s corporate sponsors, who have put $500,000 into the “stretch pool.”

Win a Golden Ticket! During the day, you could be chosen at random to have your charity of choice receive an additional $1000 from GiveBIG’s sponsors.  This year, the selected donor will also be eligible to win a Starbucks gift card worth $100!

Spring Clean Up this Saturday, April 28

it’s time for the annual Spring Cleaning for Downtown Issaquah. We are looking for a few good citizens to make a difference in our community. Please consider spending a couple of hours making a difference to our historic downtown. If you can push a broom, swing a shovel or plant some flowers, we want you.

From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 on  Saturday, April 28 we will be gathering at the Hailstone Feed Store (historic
Shell Station) at 232 Front Street to get assignments for the morning.

Students can earn community service hours. Bring a friend, bring some gloves. Make a difference.  DIA will provide tools.

Free pizza will be served at noon compliments of Flying Pie Pizza.

 

City of Issaquah Bag Ordinance Meeting

date for a Special Meeting to discuss and gather input from the community on the
proposed retail carryout bag next Monday, April 30 at 7pm City Hall South. In
