Beautiful weather and the opportunity to drink some tasty local wines, hear some great music and experience fabulous art happening brought out the crowds last month for the inaugural Downtown Issaquah Wine Walk. Issaquah Wine Walk is a new First Friday evening event this winter in Downtown Issaquah that is fun and supports the community. Enjoy live music, art and wines from small, local boutique wineries poured in various designated tasting locations up and down Front Street. All ages welcome. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Downtown Issaquah Association (DIA) and valued non-profit partners. Stay tuned for March art happenings.

WINERIES FEATURED FOR MARCH 2 WINE WALK

Animale
Animale is a new ultra-premium winery that produces, by hand, small quantities of intense, full-flavored wines from grapes from family-farmed Yakima, Columbia, and Willamette Valley vineyards.
Elsom Winery
Elsom Winery uses grapes that are hand-crafted and carefully-nurtured from growers with proven consistency and pride. They offer exclusively bottled wines that offer distinctive flavours, borne of a singular desire, to create a great bottle of wine.
Kana Winery
Kana is a native word for the spirit or the fire within a mountain. The Yakima and Columbia Valleys are awash with volcanic soil influences, providing terroir from the millennia of “Kana” escaping from nearby volcanic mountains, to lay resting as soil for our world-class vineyards.
Hollywood Hills
This family-owned winery in Woodinville produces small lots of elegant, balanced wines. A true Garagiste, they produce 1200 cases of Rhone-inspired and Estate Grown wines.
Nardone Winery
Local Restaurater will feature a few of their family wines. The Nardone family has a history of discovering and producing fine wines. Wine Enthusiast Magazine named their Poggio Nardone 2006 Burnello absoluletly gorgeous.
Stina Cellars
Stina’s Cellars is a family owned and operated winery dedicated to producing affordable premium wine.

Nolan Garrett – artEAST

Virtuoso guitarist Nolan Garrett plays an intoxicating blend of rock, blues, and r&b. Born in Tacoma, WA, Nolan started playing in front of people at the age of 9. He has played several local festivals and performed at several venues in the Tacoma-Seattle area. Nolan amazes the attendees, whether he is an opener or headliner, he never ceases to impress!

 

Bodacious Ladyhood – Village Theatre
Back by popular demand, Bodacious Ladyhood is a tantalizing trio of vibrant chanteuses whose     blend of sounds and choice of material have made them a must see in the Seattle cabaret scene. They are impressive, innovative and inimitable.

Larry Murante – Thrive Naturopathic
Larry Murante’s beautifully woven stories about every day folks, set to song combine compassionate, socially conscious lyrics and an upbeat, joyful, folk/rock style.  2009 Grand Prize Winner of the International John Lennon Songwriting Contest 2009 Kerrville Grassy Hill Newfolk Finalist.

Simply Strings – Museo Art Academy
This string quartet is a group of four women who take pleasure in making music for themselves and performing for public and private events. The musicians are Shirley Herridge on 1st violin; Mimi Fielding, 2nd violin; Linda Herrick, viola; and Merrie Reardon on cello. These ladies are also members of the Gig Harbor Peninsula Civic Orchestra.

Uptown4 - ArtByFire
The Uptown 4 are an acapella group seeking to bring the joy of harmony to people of all ages while proving that acapella music will continue to be the best form of live entertainment for generations to come. Their set list spans a range of styles from Fifties Doo-Wop and Standards to modern-day Top 40 hits and a growing list of originals. If you think “acapella” means “barbershop quartet”, prepare to be proven wrong.

Violet Oroboros – Illuminate
Charles and Malena McCrone are Violet Oroboros, an acoustic duo performing an eclectic blend of folk, pop, jazz and rock . Malena McCrone performs on vocals, bass, guitar and Charles McCrone plays guitar, banjo and vocals.

Angelo Pizarro – Vino Bella
Angelo Pizarro, guitar virtuoso and composer, writes and performs brilliant, improvisational acoustic and electric guitar music, mining the traditional sounds of his Filipino heritage with the electrified funk and rock of his youth.

Witness goblet making at its finest. Master glass blower, Leonard Whitfield, shows off his collection of hand blow wine goblets. In the studio watch how goblets are created utilizing traditional Italian glassblowing techniques that are over 300 years old. Goblets are the most difficult and stressful items that glassblowers make so be prepared to watch some beautiful goblets be born while others experience a fatal confrontation with the concrete floor!!!! (Don’t try this at home boys and girls.

Meet the artists whose hands create the work! The artEAST Art Center features a destination gallery offering artwork produced by 100 local artists. The gallery collection represents masterful design and technique in a wide range of mediums and prices. Be the artist! artEAST also offers dozens of classes and workshops to create a positive learning experience for the experience for the novice or professional student. Gallery sales support free programs.

Museo Art Academy
Museo will be hosting a FREE hands-on painting activity. Anyone stopping in is welcome to spend a few minutes, with the assistance of one of our instructors to create a Mark Rothko inspired color field painting on a stretched canvas. We’ll even package their painting up for them so they can take it with them as they move on to the next Wine Walk venue.
