Tina Velazquez Hays

Tina Velazquez Hays is a painter and mixed-media artist living in Downtown Issaquah. She sells her work online and in person at art markets and festivals. She has completed mural and large-scale commissions and recently collaborated with the Issaquah Latino Club to create altar objects for the Dia de Muertos altar.

From Tina

“This piece explores the connections that exist between all members of this community. During this trying time, I have chosen to illustrate the concept of connection as a red thread. The winding and looping cord composed of delicate individual fibers represents the members of the community and the bonds that tie us to one another, a visual reminder that we exist with others and that our fates are woven together. This version of a red thread expands upon centuries of imbued meaning across traditions and cultures. Here in Issaquah, it is my hope that this red thread challenges us to embrace the spaces where our diverse cultures intersect.”

Ann Elizabeth Scott

Born to creative parents in Greenwich Village, New York, Ann Elizabeth Scott has art in her blood.  The creative life was always an option, though not romanticized. “Artists don’t live well,” her mother once told her. Nonetheless, she spent ten years studying many areas of art, earning a fine art degree and an applied arts degree. She has participated in artist exhibitions all over Seattle. Her work is owned by collectors in France, Switzerland, and Brazil, as well as Seattle and other parts of the country.

From Ann Elizabeth
“I’m honored to have been selected to be one of the artists participating in the Downtown Issaquah Painted Window Project. My vision is to create art that elevates people’s spirits and evokes fond memories of holiday times, as well as creating hope for future joys. The image of a carousel horse has always seemed romantic and beautiful to me, with its intricate carved details and glowing colors. Children love them and so do I.”

Priyanka Parmanand

Priyanka is a self-taught artist living in Issaquah, WA. As a child, art was something she loved to do in her free time but never thought it could be anything more than that. She was part of a society where everyone around her was pursuing a career in science, engineering, or medicine. In 2008, she moved to the U.S. and met her art mentor. The rest is her present and future. Her art represents hope, color and textures that represent positive energy. Today she participates in local art exhibitions and loves being an art instructor in schools, local art galleries and senior centers.

From Priyanka

“My art is an expression of all that is different while unifying this diversity through a common denominator of human feelings. Through my paintings, I communicate these entrenched feelings hope and happiness. I use vibrant colors that push and pull each other to completion. As an artist I enjoy this journey of finding “the unpredictable” in the end. This sense of discovery is extremely exciting for me. I find Art as an amazing medium that helps me connect to my inner self while cultivating self-awareness on various subjects that are pertinent in current times.”

Lisa Rasmussen

Lisa is an artist who has been in business since 1983. She has a long list of accomplishments, including successful advertising campaigns and sales at fairs and festivals. With more than 38 years of working in the art business, Lisa continues to enhance her product line, taking suggestions from customers and continuously coming up with new art ideas.

From Lisa:
“I hadn’t planned on being an artist. I grew up on a family dairy farm with 6 other siblings in the foothills of Mount Rainier. Drawing and painting always came easily, so I took my hobby and made it a business. I try to give the animals personalities in my paintings and sometimes put them in humorous situations. There is so much love, emotion, and the gentle nature of the animals that I try to portray in my art. I started out with cows and farm animals but now I have almost every animal covered. My customers, 3 kids and now 3 grandkids give me inspiration. I hope my art brings a smile to you and to all that share them.”

Gail Baker

Gail grew up in Bellevue, Washington in the 50’s and 60’s where public education included generous funding for the arts. She was immersed in painting, drawing, and sculpture every year of her school years. In 1967-1971 she studied fine arts and graphic arts at WSU and UW. She continued drawing and began selling her work when she graduated and moved to a “Utopian” artist’ community on Hood Canal in the early 70’s. Eventually she got married, lived in a teepee and a hand-made cabin, and had two children. Children nudged Gail in an entirely new direction. She introduced them to any mediums available and volunteered to teach art in their schools. Schools hired her to offer art residencies integrating the arts with academics.

From Gail:

There is nothing more important to me than connection with humans, animals, plants, the earth, the air we breathe. For me connection is “knowing” through direct experience. That is best done through gentle exploration, kindness, and genuine curiosity. The art I make always has elements of emotion and visceral sensation, not just in the process but in the content. A sensory response to the world is a constant for me, and I work from a very spontaneous place. A piece will speak in its own voice and I have learned to follow. There is always more to understand than I knew before I started. Always.
